Dutch arrival in India
At the end of middle age and at the beginning of the modern age several European walked out for the purpose of doing Business through the sea route, that time India was a huge source for the trading. Dutch (present Netherlands) were one of them to come to India after the arrival of Portuguese.
Cornelis De Doutman was the first Dutch explorer to come to India.
Establishment and Settlements of the Dutch in India
Dutch also known as the nations of Holland (present Netherlands) established their Dutch East India Company (United East India Comp. of the Netherlands) in 1602 AD. The agenda of the company was to rule in the region of the Indian Ocean.
- The first factory of the Dutch was opened in Masulipatam of Andhra Pradesh in 1605.
- Pulicat in Tamil Nadu was the second city, where Dutch opened their second fort Geldria.
- Pulicat was a core point for the Dutch to control all the regions of the Indian Ocean and continents near it.
- The main reason for decline of Dutch in India was Bedara war with the British in 1753 AD.
- Robert Clive led the Bedara War.
